I am a research fellow at the Centre for Philosophy and AI Research (PAIR) at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. I work on understanding how we can epistemically responsibly form beliefs with AI systems. My work also explores other epistemology of AI themes, such as relying on opaque systems, testimony from AI, chatbot epistemology, epistemic agency in an AI age, and so on. My most recent work presents design possibilities for teaching intellectual virtues with generative AI systems.
I am also a member of the Era-Net Neuron project called COMPAIN, which examines the complexity of pain and its normative implications. Some of my COMPAIN work examines AI-based pain assessment and its impact on pain complexity. In August and September 2026, I will be a resident at the Brocher Foundation, furthering this research.
In May and June 2025, I was a fellow at the London AI and Humanity Project at the School of Advanced Studies. Previous fellowships include the Käte Hamburger Kolleg at RWTH Aachen University and Boğazçi University, Istanbul.
I have a PhD in philosophy from the University of Edinburgh, a research Master’s degree from the University of the Punjab, Lahore, and two undergraduate degrees in biotechnology and philosophy from Forman Christian College University, Lahore
I am from Lahore, Pakistan, the city with the best food in the world.
